PM orders to ease foreign currency rule violations punishment

MOSCOW, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the Justice and Finance Ministries as well as the Russian Export Center to prepare amendments to the Criminal Code easing responsibility for violation of foreign currency rules, according to a statement released on Friday.

Business daily Vedomosti reported that four business associations asked Medvedev to lift criminal persecution for foreign currency rule violations.

The text of the letter seen by PRIME reads, “The business community supports lifting of Article 193 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sees that adoption of corresponding amendments will favor further liberalization of foreign currency control, lower excessive criminalization of economic activities of Russian exporters and as a consequence, long-term development of industrial goods’ exports.”
